BERNARD'S BAR A GREAT SUCCESS!

A review of "Bernard's Bar" has appeared in the'Sedgeberrow Scene'- it is set out below:

Bernard's Bar - SOAP production

Some years ago, there used to be a US comedy called Cheers which was a bar where everyone knew your name ...... well, loosely based on that idea was ‘Bernard's Bar' where perhaps not everyone knew your name!!
We were treated to another good night of fun and entertainment. It was like being at the Queen's Head but we'd brought our own drink and nibbles. The bar setting was very realistic.

`           Some outstanding performances as usual, and the cast really enjoyed getting into their character role. First-class acting by Sally and Ray as the landlady and landlord (who obviously had some sort of problem and needed some special unmentionable medication for his problem!).  Ros was superb as the barmaid, and Pat as the cleaner, with Joyce as the cook, making a good comedy trio, ad-libbing. Janine and Caroline being pestered by Dave as the man out to impress the ladies, and pretended to be health conscience and a keep fit fanatic, but he didn't fool us. A rather shifty performance by George!  Richard was the policeman, coming to enquire about dubious supply of certain medicines. His fine performance was obviously based on past episodes of Dixon of Dock Green.

As always, Brian seems to steal the show as the compere.   He was so funny with his home-produced scripts, and then once he got going in the limelight, he wasn't going to stop for anyone, especially the final act when they virtually dragged him off.

The final act was terrific, an impromptu band session. What wonderful talent they all had.  Simon on keyboard; a new       young man, Paul C on the drums; Maisie, Janine and George singing; Sally, Richard and Paul G on guitars. They were really good, and probably should now think about "Britain's got talent" auditions.

What is so brilliant about the SOAP productions, apart from being local people, is they enjoy putting on the performances for us. Here's to the next one - see you there!!
